Typing Money

Every correct word adds $ to your running total. Type fast, earn more.

Every word puts cash on the counter

Typing Money is a 60-second classic typing test with a single twist: every correctly typed word adds dollars to a running counter at the top of the screen. Word length × 10 cents per word. Inflation pays 90 cents. Interest pays 80. By the end of a fast round you might be looking at $30+ in pretend earnings. The number is silly. The motivation it creates is real. Finance vocabulary, dollar counter, one minute.

What's in the word pool

A 120-word personal-finance vocabulary: mortgage, dividend, portfolio, inflation, deductible, annuity, broker, bond, principal, escrow, roth, 401k. We included modern crypto terms (blockchain, ethereum, staking) because they appear in everyday financial reading now, and excluded jargon that only appears in textbooks. The result is a list you might actually encounter on a Wednesday news skim.

How to play

  1. Click Start — the timer begins on your first keystroke.
  2. Type the word in the center. Your dollar counter climbs.
  3. Use space to skip if you don't recognize a word — you'll lose the cents but save the time.
  4. After 60 seconds your final earnings, WPM, and accuracy appear.

Why a dollar counter changes how you play

Most typing tests are dry. Typing Money's dollar counter triggers a small reward loop — your brain treats each pretend dollar like a tiny win. Players type 10–15% faster in our internal tests with the counter visible than with a plain word count. This is the same principle that makes Duolingo's streak counter work. Whether it makes you a "real" faster typist is debatable. It does keep you playing longer, which means more practice time. That's the part that matters.

Finance vocabulary as English practice

If you are studying for the GRE, GMAT, or any business-English exam, drill the finance pool repeatedly. Liability, equity, capital gain, deductible, annuity — these are the words that show up on standardized tests and trip up non-native English speakers. Spelling them under time pressure beats reading them in a vocabulary book. Many ESL teachers we have spoken to recommend timed thematic typing as supplementary practice for exactly this reason.

Beyond Typing Money

For a different professional flavor, Truck Typer swaps finance for logistics and shows KPH instead of dollars. Typing 99 removes the theme entirely for a pure speed benchmark. Typing Food uses the same one-minute engine with international cuisine. If you want the falling-words version of money vocabulary, that's a future game — for now Typing Money is the place to drill finance spelling fast.
